Δημοσίευση από Greekos »

Commercial Name: Allones No.2
Factory Name:Campana
Dimensions:5 1/2 (140mm) x 52 ring gauge
Presentations:Special Presentation Box (SPB) of 10 cigars
Could be as little as 6000 boxes.
Flavour category: Full
Production method:Totally handmade using long filler with all leaves sourced from the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba. Minimum two years age of the tabaccos.

From Jemma Freeman:
"In 2005, when Hunters & Frankau were invited to help pioneer the Regional Edition concept with Habanos S.A, the cigar chosen for the project was the Ramón Allones Belicoso - exactly the same brand and similar shape as this 2019 Limited Edition. We are proud to see this cigar again as a Limited Edition and feel sure it will prove to be just as popular.
This is just the third time that the Ramón Allones brand has been selected to produce a Limited Edition cigar, following the 2011 Allones Extra and the Club Allones from 2015.

Those fortunate enough to have sampled these cigars, in the UK and Havana, tend to agree that although they smoke well now, they have the potential to develop and mature for many years to come.

The dark wrapper of these Limited Editions adds a subtle yet satisfying dimension of sweetness to the taste and the extra age (minimum two years) of all of the tobaccos has smoothed off some of the edges to the blend, leaving a cigar of rare power and balance."

I was one of the lucky 600 or so people to have the privilege to be part of the world launch of the cigar that Hunters and Frankau won the bid to take place in the UK.

On to the cigar now

An absolutely beautiful cigar. An immaculate wrapper. Very oily to the eye and you can feel it on your fingers. Almost like an Italian leather Imola chair.

The nose has leather, very dark chocolate and a gamey-earthy smell.

The draw is a dream. Just enough resistance but ample flow.
Great mouthfeel. On the lips the oily wrapper makes me salivate. It has a salty kind of umami flavour.

The combustion is excellent. Ignites well, but it wants you to spend more time with it.

Leather, dark roasted Brazilian coffee, walnuts fill the atmosphere.

First puffs and the mouth is true to the nose.

Saltiness, leather, plenty of black pepper and coffee. Definitely earthier tones, but there is a little crescendo of something like cherry blossoms and some sour cherries.

The first third is on the medium side for strength and flavour intensity.

On the second third we still have leather, pepper and salty caramel walnuts. Very dark coffee and dark chocolate, dried mushrooms and again a delightful cherry. The mouth feel becomes richer and creamier . Maybe some hazelnut chocolate is there. Spicy and delicious. Definitely becomes fuller in strength.

Oh no.... The final third..... ; why oh why they didn't make it a little longer!

Leather, coffee, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper and ginger are very intense. Definitely roasted walnuts and hazelnuts and a black forest gateaux is in the background. Some burnt salty caramel is drizzled allover this great cigar. It is creamier and stronger.

And then is gone... My fingers cannot hold it any more.... Goodbye sweet Allones. We will meet again soon!!

What a great cigar. It has a core flavour profile that develops as you smoke through. It takes you through a journey that becomes stronger and more prominent. Great intensity and fantastic savoury- gamey profile.

It smokes amazing now but I think in couple of years it would be even better.

The pairing with
HINE CIGAR RESERVE

Dorset-born Thomas Hine embodies the remarkable Cognac house that bears his name, founded in 1763, then perpetuated by six generations of Hine.

Twenty-four years ago Bernard Hine & Nicholas Freeman, the late Chairman of Hunters & Frankau, combined their lifetime knowledge, experience and friendship to produce a unique Cognac. One especially created for the cigar connoisseur. The Hine Cigar Reserve.

A blend of twenty eaux-de-vie, produced using Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne and Fins Bois grapes, are used to create the multi-layered and captivating character of this XO Cognac.

Cigar Reserve expresses notes of sweet cinnamon, precious woods and candied fruits. On the palate it delivers deep amber tones including wild honey, lightly toasted brioche, walnut and orange zest. The ideal companion for a fine Havana cigar.

- indeed the cognac was true to its flavour description with the lovely honeyed floral profile and oranges.
